Sleep

I need a pillow.

I feel like I’m crashing and burning.  I just want to close my eyes and go to sleep.  I had a good night sleep last night.  So there is no reason for feeling this way today.  The ‘Bottom Line’ signs in the bathroom are all about sleep right now.

One thing I have noticed, over the years, many many years, is that sleep studies can’t really agree on who much sleep we need.  I’ve seen a great many findings.

6 – 8 Hours

7-8 Hours

7-9 Hours

8 – 8.5 Hours

8 to 9 Hours

There is only ONE number that seems to be in every result.  That is the number 8.  8 hours of sleep.  Why don’t we just agree that people need 8 hours of sleep since that one is somewhere in every result and then add that there are a few people that seem to need slightly less or slightly more but 8 seems to be the ‘standard’.

Why spend so much energy on how much sleep we all need.  We would all be better off using that time to get that 8 hours of sleep than spending our energy saying that some of us need more and some need less.  Do your thing and then get some sleep.

Projects

I have several things going on that are slowing me down.  One that I will show you has not actually been started.  But I can’t wait to work on it.

Mill Hill Frightful Delight Debbie Mumm

Since I’m not yet working on it, it isn’t slowing me down. But packing and weeding out stuff, in an attempt to reduce my stuff by 20%, and getting it all boxed up in 4 weeks will take some time.

We are moving to a newer unit across the road. Our building sits on a hill. The weather hits our corner pretty hard. The master bedroom has two outside walls that get bombarded with cold wind and rain and snow.

This means my roommate’s room can be a good 10 degrees colder that the rest of the apartment. Oddly enough, the room next to it, the computer room, can be an average of 10 degrees hotter than the living room, kitchen, and front bedroom. Hotter when both of us are in there and both computers are running. SO on a bad day, the two rooms, side by side, can be as much as 30 degrees apart.

The other place is going to be on the middle floor, with several buildings in front of us, to block the weather. Hopefully, the master bedroom won’t get hit so hard with cold air there.

Cat Blogs

I currently read Cult of Otis, which is very amusing.  It has me thinking about trying to do a blog from the point of view of Puck.  My onry (this can’t be spelled right but the computer thinks it is) cat.  He is named after the Shakespearean character and has the same personality.  But it could be a lot of work, constantly taking pictures every day to try to capture the view-point of both cats.

Cat Dentalectomy – Things you never knew about your cat….

It is a clipart cat skull. Who knew you could find one in clipart. See the big gaps at the front and rear of the jaw? That is actually where cats chew food.

I learned something new last night.  Or maybe two somethings.  There is an autoimmune disease for cats only now being understood.  There is no method of treatment as yet other than a total Dentalectomy.  With this disease, a cat’s body starts to reject his teeth and sometimes gums.  This leads to extreme pain when eating.  But it can start slowly and my friends, whose cat has this, thought he had a bad tooth.  So they took him to an animal dentist.  Yes, such a thing exists. (Okay, three things.)

For a feral cat, this is probably fatal.  But for you indoor cat, this is actually not a problem.  It turns out that cats only use their teeth to kill and pull meat off the body.  When eating from a bowl, they don’t use their teeth at all.  They chew with the back of their jaws.  A cat can have all teeth removed and, if they ate crunchies before, they can return to eating crunchies once the mouth heals. What the dentist does, after removing the teeth, is shape the jaw (using a diamond bit) into a chewing palate.

The cat in question is turning into a handsome devil.  He was a very cute cat, but very overweight.  Over the past three weeks, he lost 2 lbs.  Which is a lot of weight to lose that fast for a cat and can be kind of risky.  But he is looking very good lately.  He may lose a tad bit more as he HATES soft food and is only eating when he gets really really hungry.  His daddy even moistened up his favorite dry food and mashed it into a paste and he wouldn’t touch it.  He really wants his crunchies.
