Projects Update, No Tardis Today

I haven’t been working on my Tardis project because I’ve been doing a couple other things.  Here is a sampling of them.

One of the stitching magazines came out with a great Halloween pattern issue. This one shouldn’t take to long.

I’m changing the colors.

Here is a teaser of what it will look like.

This is a rather huge design. This shows about 4 pages of the pattern stitched. The pattern was made by Heaven and Earth and they specialize in turning paintings and artwork into stitch patterns. This is about 200 hours of work and it just a fraction of the pattern.

.

Elegant Pumpkins. After I took the picture, I finished the purple swirls and have started filling in the spaces. They are filled with a silver braid.

Teresa Wentzler’s Futurecast is almost done. Just the last of the black border and then the back stitching, and last of all, the beading. I wanted to get a feel for the dragon so I started the back stitching already. It sure made the clawed back foot pop.

The fabric name is something kind of ordinary like “pretty in purple” or “princess purple”. I can’t really remember. I was thinking about doing two matching Halloween patterns in reverse colors. You will see why I picked that green fiber in a moment.

The green fabric was called “Tortured Toad”. I had to buy it for the name alone. I got some purple fiber to go with it. A friend said that instead of doing anything like a couple of pumpkins or cat shapes, I should do two more Tardi in the reverse colors and have a matched set of ‘Halloween’ Tardi.

After taking a ton of photo’s, I’ve decided my cubicle is not a good location for taking pictures of stitchery. I had a TERRIBLE time of getting good photos without glare or blurring. My chair isn’t flat but it had the nice black background. But spots that didn’t lay flat tended to blur. I’m going to have to lay things on the table with a black cloth if I want to get good stitched photos. And in a place with enough light to turn my flash off. Some of the fibers and fabrics get a little shiny and reflect the flash.

Mysteries of a Woman’s Purse Revealed.

Here I shall unveil and demystify a woman’s purse. Everything is some sort of necessity or another.

Purse and Wallet

The small wallet helps to show how small the purse really is. In the wallet are the standard wallet things as well as my cell phone. My mother got the wallet for me when she was in Hawaii. I’m so impressed. She found something with a Hawaiian theme in black and white. It there is a little grey and cream. But it is a little dingy right now and I should wash it.

Something to do.

Contents of ‘Something to Do’ although beeds are not shown.

I have a small stitching project for when I need something to do. I can sometimes fit a book into this purse, but not when I have all this stuff in it. Maybe I should clean it out sometime?????
The little project is actually very stuffed itself. Taking up most of the space is the small, multi-folded envelope to keep all the floss colors seperate and in order.

Pens, Pens, Pens, more Pens

I also seem to have accumulated a rather large collection of pens in black, blue and red.  I have one mechanical pencil for my gaming night (I hate pencils, I won’t even use them for word puzzles, but it is an absolute must for pen and paper RPG’s. Even I can’t get around it then) and one highlighter for marking completed stitches.  I’m not as good at remembering where aI left off as when I was younger.  I had a huge project and HAD to use a highlighter to keep track.  But I discovered that once you start using one you can’t stop.  You can’t really go back to keeping your place by memory.  I sometimes have my checkbook.  Since I destroy the covers, I don’t use them.

Soup and Beverage, Cough Drops and Pain Killers

I also have a couple packet of instant soup, a flavor packet to add to water, a fist full of cough drops, (I figured just a few would do for the photo) and several packets of various types of pain killers.  I figured one would do.  The soup is yummy Fish Broth soup that is more tea like than soup like.  Wonderful on cold mornings after the drive in to work.  And sometimes you just get sick of flavorless water and you need something with taste.

How I get in to Work

Nail Polish

Of course, I have to make sure I can get into work once I actually get there.

I’m not too sure how I ended up sith so many bottles of nail polish in my purse.  I really need to take most of those out.  I would hate to catch my purse in a door and crack one of those glass vials.

Misc Things….

And last but not least I have an assortment of miscelaneous items.  A Tide pen for accidental dribbles.  An inhailer, D&D dice so I can always find them.  A small tin that holds 6 tea bags.  A tiny flashlight. Two lip balms since I’m always losing them.  The green one is a green tea balm and much better than chapstick brand.  The white spool is actually a sparkly pearl blending fillment.  And the plug to change my USB camera cord into a wall charger.  It will not charge from the computer.  I had a tooth brush and tooth paste in there too but they actually belong in my work desk so I took them out and put them back in the drawer.

Tardis Project Update

I thought it was a good time to give an update on this project. I hope to have some more pictures this weekend. I haven’t worked on it much because I was working on pumpkins. I also had to do a few things to get up to speed.

I picked up the additional fibers for the canvaswork/needlepoint version. But I still need stretcher bars in the correct size to which to tack it. These are proving harder to find than I expected. What is really annoying is that I’m pretty sure I have some that would be just right if only I could find them.

I also started the beaded version but realized that the pattern would not work as it was done for stitchery. The outline bits would need to have actual rows and therefore I needed to rechart it. I got that finished and now I need to restart it.

Tardis and Creativity Part 2

That’s right, this will be a multi-part thread.  I didn’t know that would happen either.  I was drawing my outline of the TARDIS on graph paper with the intent of only doing two versions of it.  Ironically, the easiest and the hardest.

As I was working on it, I started to see the stitches for the other methods and realized I would still be using the exact same outline.  Most of it was creating itself and I realized doing 4 different types would be easy.  Then I realized it was 5. I could do simple counted cross stitch and fancy counted cross stitch, using some other stitches.

On the way home, I noticed I left something out.  Beading.  Since I was nearing Hobby Lobby, I ran in and picked up the last items, 5 tubes of beads.  So I will now being doing SIX versions.

16 count white aida w/ czech beads.

This is obviously the beaded version. I even know that I am going to call it the Crystal Tardis. I’ve already done three rows. But I’m kind of wishing I had alternated cross stitch with beading. Oh well. I’m still going to be happy with it. It may be quite stiff when completed.

18 ct black mono-canvas and blue silk splendor

This will be the canvas work piece. The silk fiber will be what I match the other fibers too. I will want to use some perle cotton, the silk, maybe some metallic even. I want a variety of fiber types to give it that little something something.

This is going to be the blackwork version. I decided I wanted the more dramatic color difference so it really popped. I found my New Anchor Book of Blackwork to help with fill patterns. Blackwork uses the Holbein stitch. Also known as the Double Running stitch. This makes it reversable. I will not worry about it being perfect enough to be reversed. I intend to back it with crushed velvet.

28ct blue belfast linen with near matching overdyed cotton floss

This is going to be one of the two cross stitched versions. I don’t know if I will do this one as a simple cross stitch with some other colors or if I will do this in fancy cross stitch where I will use some other stitches as well and just do it all in one color with black back stitching to outline it.

28ct denim colored linen with midnight blue silk

This is the other cross stitch piece. Again, will this be a simple, straight forward cross stitch or will it be the one to also use some of the fancy stitches? I will say that it is the most expensive of the silks I bought for the fiber.

Light blue silk on crushed black velvet.

This one will be the simplest. Or it will be once I decide the best way to get the drawing onto the fabric. Since it will be outlining with embroidery, most likely stem stitch, I may put the outline on the back and work from the reverse side. I will be using a pricking wheel on the pattern and then going over it with a fabric crayon. I am just not sure if it will work on the right side of the velvet.

I also got a lot of extra velvet for backing. I will make this last one into a throw pillow. The others will be smaller than I hoped. I doubled the size but that means most of them are about 2.5 wide by 5 high. Well, slightly under that. With margins, they will be a little bit wider, but not throw pillow size. So I will probably do small wall hangings or ornaments. Hey, I could do a bunch of ornaments. I could make a whole Doctor Who ornament collection and do a Doctor Who Christmas Tree next Christmas. Or maybe I’ll make panels out of the three 28 ct fabrics and make a single wall hanging.
