What is going on….

I have not been coming up with as many good ideas as last year.  Or, I do have a few, but when I have time to jot them down, I can’t remember them.

So I’ve posted less.

And it looks like I’m in for another move again.  Fairly soon too.  So I may end up having a moving process to talk about.

Tonight is my gaming night, but tomorrow I’m going to start the ambitious task of whittling my stuff down my 25%.  It may be painful.  But I need to have less stuff.  I really do.

So, it will be slice of stuff for a bit.

I do need to write about a rather bad movie I saw last week.  I was watching 1980’s comedies.  One movie with an all star cast was not funny at all.  It was sad.  Just sad. But more about that later.

Backed up and bogged down.

During the day, I sometimes find that I can’t ‘like’ posts and sometimes can’t get into the comments sections.  This drives me nuts and I have to wait and find the time when I can do it and get it to go though.

This can back up my blog replying and bog down my inbox.

Sometimes, when I get up in the middle of the night, I can crank through a bunch of it and get close to something resembling ‘caught up’.

That did not happen tonight as I typed some long comments.  That seriously slowed me down.

Friday, I’ll be heading out-of-town for 4 days.  My only lap top with a wireless card is OLD.  But it still usually lets me get online.  It is just a real pain to use.  So I may end up getting REALLY behind if I have to go four days without access.

I’ll use the hot tub at the lodge to console myself.  Hmmm, I wonder if I can get my Netflix to run on it… (the laptop, not the hot tub, that would just be weird).  And then there is all the photo taking I need to do.  But there may not be much snow.  I was hoping for snow.

The Site Stats Page Makes Me Crave More Information

Posted in Writing with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on June 20, 2012 by urbannight

Today is a strange day at work. It is an even stranger day on Word Press. I’ve had very few views. But they come from Russian Federation and Australia with one view from the UK and the USA.

The search terms are even stranger.

Game of Thrones Forehead. Since I don’t have cable, I don’t know why there is a forehead reference in conjunction with Game of Thrones. I do understand how I might have popped up in a search and I think I have three blogs that have dealt with the title and the book and why I wasn’t watching the show.

Mary Kate Daddy Issues. Yep, I wrote a blog on this last week. I am just surprised my humble little blog would pop up in a search.

Something Old Something New Something Borrowed Something Blue. Hmmm, this one is harder to figure out. I’ve not used the saying before. I’ve not had many blogs about weddings. I HAVE had a fair number of blogs about the Tardis and Doctor Who in which I have mentioned blue any number of times and may have used it as a tag. Most often this happens in the blogs where I discuss the Tardis Project.

In fact, when I go to my all time summary of search terms, “Tardis” is the search that has most often brought people to me. To be completely accurate, out of all the Tardis searches it is Tardis Graph Paper that pulls people in.

Variations on twilight anesthesia are also common. I guess I’m not the only one who had an unpleasant experience when I was coming off the anesthesia.

My views have drastically dropped since WordPress isn’t sharing with Facebook in the manner it should. This has been more than a little disturbing for me. I didn’t think I cared about that until the numbers started dropping so terribly low.

When I see some of the odder countries, at least odd in relation to what I’m posting about, I wish they could tell me what was viewed. What did that person in Kenya read? How did that person in Singapore get routed to me? What have I talked about that Albanians find interesting?

I think stat’s page gives me just enough info to actually make me more curious and crave more information than it is capable of detailing.

Lucky Seven?

Posted in Writing with tags , , , , , , , , on June 16, 2012 by urbannight

ACK!  I was trying to copy the instructions and got a little more than I anticipated.  So I wiped that out.  SORRY, not meaning to copy other peoples words!  Anyway, this is either a new award thingy or it is a new ‘game’ thingy.  It’s the Lucky Seven meme.  So this is what you do:

  • Go to page 7 or 77 in your current manuscript (fiction or non-fiction)
  • Go to line 7
  • Post the next 7 lines or sentences on your blog as they are (no cheating, please!)
  • Tag 7 other authors to do the same

I was tagged in this and I probably need to explain why mine looks a little strange.  I work from increasingly detailed outlines.  I get my idea and write it out in a paragraphy or two or three.  Then I start an outline of major points.  I then go and add connecting points, then I go thought adding more detail.  Then I do it again.  And again, until it is ready to be written out in prose form.  Everyone has different methods that work best for them.  This is mine.  So long as it is fiction.  For non-fiction, I find good old fashioned note cards work best for me.

VII.   Alliance

A.  Were mission stumbles across Holly taking down a ‘reformer’.

1.    Holly tracks a councel man

a.  Chases him into a back alley.

b.  Her hunting mode brings out catlike behaviors.

c. As a power vamp separated from his muscle, he has no chance against the hunting skills she has been honing.

d.   After toying w/ him a bit, she goes in for the kill.

I actually have a fairly detailed, 12 page outline for the entire book. And two concept bocks for two follow up books.   But then I realized I don’t actually buy into the main social structure and now I have to rework the ENTIRE thing.  As a result, I have set it aside and toyed with several other story ideas, but at this time, this one is the most advanced one to which I currently have accessas as I’m out and about dogsitting for people out of town.

I know I’m supposed to tag people, but I’m skipping that today.  I would end up tagging some people already tagged recently and few of the novelists I read have gotten so deep into their projects they have developed a drastic slowdown in their otherwise normally prolific blogging.  As a result, I’m not sure I want to slow them down.

Because it was too fun!

strewth! I just got slapped with a wet salmon – really – I have not updated this since you last visited… You would not believe how terribly tardy the Victorian internet can be. I prostrate myself in sorrow and beg thy forgiveness..

I am lost in a sea of pseudo-olde-english with learning to play lawn bowls, being distracted by the shiny, just generally being asleep, dreaming and chancing to anyone unfortunate to cross my path, my day is a nightmare I would like to wake up from mid-morning to sun down and beyond. I am plotting and planning. perchance.

I swear on the bones of my ancestors to send a missive out on the wire, post-haste. Fully! Unless of course the pool with the cocktail bar is heated!.

Mile Markers and Obligations

Posted in Art, Entertainment, Life, Uncategorized, Writing with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on April 20, 2012 by urbannight

I am told that there is this obligatory, “I’ve hit some mile marker and must post random stats,” blog one must do.  Since I didn’t do it at 100 I’m supposed to do it now that I hit 150.

I started this in 2010 but couldn’t really get into the swing of it until a few months back and now seem to be going like gangbusters. I usually post daily. I occasionally miss a day, but that is made up by the fact that some days I post extra posts.  There are days that just trigger more thoughts that want to be blogged than others.

And yes, it is the thoughts themselves that sometimes want to be blogged.  Sometimes, they are like characters in a story you are working on that really want your attention and really want to do something or other you didn’t plan.

This morning, when I collected my data, some of which has changed now, I only had 1704 all time views.  But most of it was since earlier this year.  I’ve not been Freshly Pressed and actually would be shocked if that ever happened.  So I’m not overly worried about it.  I don’t need to be the person with the most friends or the most followers to be happy.

My busiest day was 4-12-12.  I posted two blogs and I think I reposted one.  I couldn’t tell when I looked at the stats today, but if I remember correctly, the most viewed blog that day was one I had posted a day or three before.

When I look at the most common search terms that led people to my blog, all of the ones tied for first place contain “TARDIS”.  Go figure.

The top countries for visits are not too surprising.

  1. USA
  2. Canada
  3. United Kingdom

Given the most common search word, this should have been expected.

Some countries kind of surprised me:Pakistan,RepublicofKorea,United Arab Emirates,Kenya,Singapore,Malaysia,Saudi Arabia,Ghana,Ecuador,Chile,Serbia, and theUkraine.

The most viewed page is Homepage/Archives.  Should I even count that?  Number two is Tardis and Creativity.  Number three is The Void – a Rift in the Space Time Continuum.

I have no idea how to hide a link under a word.  If I did, I would do that.  To make it easier to find for people who might have missed them. So I will do it the messy way.

I’m not sure why this is obligatory.  I’m not sure that any of it means anything to anyone other than me.  But here it is for your viewing pleasure.

Today has been pre-empted by work, sleepiness, spring, and an overwhelming desire to find a nap spot.

ARG, my number in the orange box went down today. Probably because I have not posted a blog.

But my eyes are burning and my feet are too hot and my bed is singing siren songs to bring me back to home and sweet sweet slumber.

Now, can I use my coat and shoes and unobtrusively make a bed under my cubicle desk?
