The Space for Invention….

… has just been invented . . . Spaces.

space-wallpaper-29This was an advert I saw on the side of a bus today.  It really torqued me off.  As if all space for invention was substandard before this building went up.

A space for invention has existed for a long time.  Laboratories.  Labs.  But people don’t need fancy places for the inventive process.

People have been inventing things in basements, garages, and attics.

People have been inventing in shops, sheds, and barns.

People have even been inventing in bedrooms and at kitchen tables.

The true space for in invention isn’t a place.  It is in the human mind.

An attempt to describe my migraine.

Mini Hammers

Mini Hammers

I feel like someone is trying to play my skull like a musical instrument using those cute little hammers.  Most of the ‘notes’ being in one area with a smattering of ‘notes’ scattered over the rest of the skull.    All this after someone with me on one side of the face with a rubber mallet.  So my eyeball feels like it has swollen up to twice its size and can’t fit in the eye socket anymore so it might pop out any second.  This is on the same side as the large cluster of ‘notes’.  And then someone has grabbed my entire head and is trying to lift the skull off the spine or is trying to lift my entire body by pulling up on my head.  To top it all off, the same side that has the most pain also seems to have an earache.

Zombified

My eyes feel dry and gritty and tired and swollen.  My eyeballs feel like I need to pop them out and soak them in milk.  Maybe I need to wash the sockets out too.  They feel gunky and gummy and leaving a film on my eyes.  It sounds like allergies but doesn’t feel like allergies.

My sinuses have split personality disorder.  Sniffles, Sneezing, Running and Congested at the same time.  They feel like exploding.  Humans are a carbon based life form.  Does that mean, given enough time and pressure, the dwarves mining tunnels in main brain could eventually mine for diamonds in what was once my snot?

My entire face feels like my skull has swollen up and the skin is now too small for my head, so it is stretched out and thin and tight and tender.  Perhaps it is my brain swelling rather than my skull.  It feels like it doesn’t have enough room and those mining dwarves have taken up residence again.  Tap tap tap, Pound pound pound.

Of course, the only visual evidence slightly saggy eyes, half shuttered to block out the extra light that work seems to be providing us.  We all have cubicle lights, why can’t they just turn out the overhead lights?  And I can’t forget the dark purple smudges beneath my eyes.  You wouldn’t think that I had 7 hours of sleep last night.  I might not have.  I constantly woke up, all night long, and my last dream was of getting hooked up to a machine so I could sleep for someone else, so that person would never need to sleep.

Being a sleeper right now sounds really good.  I suspect I’m running a low fever.  It feels like it.  It usually happens when I’m overly tired.  And that is exactly what I think it could be.  As sick as I feel, as zombified as I feel, horribly wretched as I feel, I think I’m just tired.

I can hardly keep my eyes open.  I feel like I’m about to pass out in my chair, the past 1 hour has felt like three.  I’m doing this mostly to keep myself from toppling over into a stupor.

Coffee and soda have been no help whatsoever.  Any magic cures?

Death by Cat

I attempted death by cat today.  It isn’t fun.

This is when you are in a rush and are heading for your shoes, so you can leave for work, and step over a cat laying near your destination.  The cat becomes convinced you are going to step ON him rather than over him.  He jumps up, hitting your foot, causing you to lose your balance.  Instead of landing on the open space, your foot comes down on the shoe you were after.  This causes you to completely topple over and fall on your back.

You realize you twisted your ankle and you don’t like the signals your back muscles and things are sending to your brain.  Grabbing some ice for the ankle and another for the back, you discover that there is no comfortable position to lay or sit in other than the recliner.  But it doesn’t work so well for keeping the ankle above heart level.

After a day of ice, I mostly kept swelling down to a minimum.  Both ankles hurt and seem swollen as my slip-on’s are too tight.  I can see some swelling but no obvious bruising.  I thought it started to bruise but realized it was  actually a blue vein under my cold skin.  My wrist hurts in a rather strange fashion.  I think it was from catching some of my weight when I fell.  My knee hurts as well.  I think it got slightly wrenched.

At first, the cat hid from the monster attempting to fall on it.  But then he kept trying to make nice.  I’m dreading the walk down the steps to my car so I can run pay rent.  The walk up the step will probably be worse.
