Flu (film)

Flu is a Korean disaster film that is very good.  Like a lot of Korean disaster films, there is a lot of humor in them.  Although the serious parts are very serious indeed.

The more I like a movie the less I have to say about it.  The less I care about spoilers.

The writing is good.

The acting is excellent.

The drama is intense.

You should watch this.  Everyone should watch this.  It is like the American film from a few years ago, Outbreak, only much better.

I group of illegals are transported into South Korea via a shipping container.  One has a cough as they take off.  They arrive in Korea with only one survivor.  He gets away but a lethal and very fast acting flu starts to spread through the city.  The city is quarantined.  Things go from bad to worse after that.

CDC people from the US come in and some politico types and they try to take over and eventually want to solve the problem by bombing the city to make sure the flu doesn’t get out of the city.    The Korean president has some difficulty wresting control back from the American’s who think they have the right to tell every other country what to do.

Well, that does sound about accurate.

Go watch it.  Go watch it now.  It is on Netflix at the moment.

Top Searches – The Current Trend is MUCUS.

In the past, my top searches had to do with Doctor Who, or more specifically, the Tardis.  This was because of a stitching project where I am doing the Tardis in several different stitching methods.

Then it became Epidermal Suffocation because I did a Bond post and was mentioning the gold-painted girl.  That brought so many people to my page trying to find out if certain things could cause you to suffocate and die by putting them on your skin so I did a post about the fact that medical science has proven there is no such thing as epidermal suffocation (or at least anything fatal).  It is bad for the skin to be covered with gunk that fills the pores on a regular basis but it won’t kill you.  It then lead to a post on the fact that overuse of lotions can be bad for the skin while covering your skin with olive oil is not only NOT fatal, it is probably very good for the skin.   The ancient Romans used olive oil as soap.  I still think they must have had amazing skin.  I put a few drops in my bath water in the winter to keep my skin from drying out.

Searches of Crow Indians and Indians also brings a lot of traffic to my page.  This is because I researched Johnny Depp’s costume for Tonto and found it to be a copy of a stylized painting of a Crow warrior. Researching the Crow Indian images lead me to a photo series done a long time ago that seemed to give valid justification for elements of that particular look.

But now that winter is here and flu season has hit, the searches bring me the most traffic are searches on Mucus, Phlegm, and Clearing the Throat or variations thereof.

I guess I ought not have been surprised. One day, when I had been sick, I wrote a post on all the methods I was using to clear my sinuses and my throat.  So at least the people searching are going to get some information on what actually helped and what didn’t.  But I don’t really care for it being a high search item.  I don’t want to be the Mucus Girl.

The Crud

There is this thing that goes around Omaha every year that even the doctors call – The Crud.  It is something like a cold.  And something like the flu.  Toss in something like a sinus infection and you get something that is a little like everything and yet none of those things.  It is viral and you pretty much have to ride it out.  Only it gets passed around more than a juicy piece of  gossip in the tabloids.  So it constantly changes.  If you live alone and clean house every day and stay away from stores and clean your desk space often, you ‘may’ be less likely to get it.

This is how I’ve been spending most of my time since the end of November.  So I’m a bit behind and haven’t found the time to write about anything or blog about anything or do much of anything.  I have managed to read a lot.  And Sleep a lot.  Sleep has taken on a life of its own and deserves to have a capital S.

As in Super Sleep.  The Sleep Wars. Sleep Strikes Back.  Return of Sleep.  Fatal Sleep.  Eyes Wide Sleeping.  The Sleep of the 50 Foot Woman.  The Sleep.  The Big Sleep.  Indian Jones and the Temple of Sleep.  Sleeping on Elm St.  Aliens versus Sleep.  American Sleep.  Well, that last one could be a whole heck of a lot of movies.

I stayed home sick for the last two days and if my budget could have afforded it, I probably would have been there again today.  So I maybe catching up on stuff.  Or I may be sleeping some more.  Hard to tell as I sit here and sniffle.  But that could be the cayenne I put in my couscous and tin of chicken breast.
